We hope you’re all having a wonderful summer and making the most of the longer days and gloriously light evenings. Although this week is considerably cooler, we have had a fantastic few weeks of pretending we are Mediterranean’s, with our glowing tans (or maybe lobster like looks!).
With the ever-impending threat of a hosepipe ban, it was a huge relief when we had a couple of rainy days. The straw that covered our lawns slowly turned greener with relief and our plants and crops grew taller overnight. Unfortunately, with extreme weather comes an increased risk of mould and fungicide, so be sure to keep an eye on this and treat where necessary. Also deadhead where required to ensure natural regrowth. Feeding and watering your plants is essential in these hotter summer months, along with lots of ventilation. Hopefully if you can keep on top of these crucial tasks, your gardens and crops will thrive.
There has been one crop in particular that has caught our eye this summer and that is the super cool cucumber, so we hope you’ve been adding them to some delicious salads and green juice. There’s certainly no need to take a multivitamin if you’re growing cucumbers, they’re filled with heaps of nutritious vitamins, as well as making the perfect relaxing eye mask!
In just four months’ time we will all be embroiled in frantic Christmas preparations and, as crazy as it sounds, now is the time to think about planting for the big day! Get planting Hyacinth, Narcissus and Cyclamen, not forgetting the all-important Christmas potatoes that need planting in pots now too!
Meanwhile, be sure to make hay while the sun shines!
