Vitavia Greenhouses – Gaia Cold Frame
If you have limited space available for 'growing your own' at home, a Cold Frame could be the answer to get you started. A Cold Frame is for all intents and purposes a 'mini' greenhouse, which can be used to protect seedlings and young plants from the changeable weather we experience in the UK.
As with all Vitavia greenhouses, Gaia Cold Frames are constructed from anodised aluminium ensuring clean handling and a pristine, endurable finish. The Gaia is available in two sizes, (i) the Standard Gaia which measures 1m in length by 1.2m wide and 0.39m high which is supplied with 4mm polycarbonate glazing and (ii) the Jumbo Gaia measuring 0.83m in length by 1.2m wide and 0.72m high, available in either 3mm horticultural glass, toughened glass or 4mm polycarbonate.
We are giving you the chance to kick start your 2012 growing season by giving away a Jumbo Gaia cold frame via our Twitter competition. For your chance to win simply follow us on Twitter @VitaviaLtd and re-tweet (RT!) the competition details. The winner will be announced on Wednesday 1st February 2012.

Vitavia Greenhouses – Securing your greenhouse – preventing wind damage.
Having experienced some strong winds in the UK this month, it is worthwhile for all greenhouse enthusiasts to be aware of the precautionary measures we recommend to help prevent wind damage.
Base fixing kits are available from Vitavia to secure our greenhouses to the ground. If you position your Vitavia greenhouse on soft ground, in your garden or allotment, (remember the key to successful assembly is to start with level ground) you can make use of our fixing stakes. At all four corners these angled metal stakes can be hammered into the earth and then screwed to the stainless steel perimeter base. Alternatively, for hard ground such as concrete or brick, we offer base fixing clips. These small metal clips hook over the interior lip of our metal bases and can be screwed into the hard standing.
We always recommend that our hobby greenhouses should be positioned in sheltered areas where possible to reduce exposure to the wind. Doors and vents should be kept closed in windy conditions as swirling winds inside a greenhouse put extra pressure on the glass panes. By following these precautions, and ensuring your greenhouse sits on a secure base, you should be able to enjoy all year round greenhouse pleasure. |

Vitavia Greenhouses – Saturn
Owning a greenhouse is one of life’s little pleasures. It has been scientifically proven that time spent pottering in a shed increases happiness and we’re certain the same applies to a greenhouse! Why not increase that pleasure further still by investing in the attractive curved eaves of a Vitavia Saturn greenhouse. One recent satisfied Saturn customer in Burton on Trent kindly provided the following feedback; “…an excellent product, well made and we are very pleased with it”.
Thereare five models in the Saturn range which each have double doors for increased access and the integral standard gutters as found on all Vitavia models. The Saturn is equipped with up to four roof vents (dependent upon the size of the greenhouse) and is supplied with ultraviolet protected acrylic panels for the curved eave sections.
Saturn was a major Roman God presiding over agriculture and the harvest time, what a fitting name for an impressive greenhouse in which to harvest your crop! A curved Saturn, particularly in a powder coated green finish, makes an especially attractive addition to any garden. |

Vitavia Greenhouses – Get a greenhouse, get ahead!
The peak period for greenhouse sales is from March onwards but many customers are ‘missing a trick’ by not making their purchase earlier in the year. Buying a greenhouse in January will enable you to get a head start.
Hardy annuals can be sown and grown as pot plants in your greenhouse in January. There are a number of plant varieties, mainly short-lived perennial herbaceous plants, which flower as soon as light levels increase in early spring, such as salpiglossis and schizanthus. To grow these you’ll need to start in January. Commercial pot plant growers sow schizanthus first thing in the New Year to be ready for Mother’s Day in March.
In February, vegetables such as parsnips, onions and turnips can be potted in preparation for transferring them to outdoor plots. It is important to remember that even on cool winter days ventilation will be required to keep the temperature down in the greenhouse when the sun is out. A Vitavia auto-louvre opener and/or auto-vent opener will ensure adequate ventilation.
So don’t delay, get a greenhouse today! |
